Fathers and Feathers

Hi there!  I've got two cards to share today.  First up is a card for The Paper Players' masculine challenge.  I finally broke down and ordered some Taylored Expressions stamps and dies and I love them!  I actually opened them up and used them right away which I almost never do.  Usually I ponder new acquisitions for ages and wonder why I thought I'd be able to actually do justice to them.  


This design came together really quickly.  I used Stampin' Up's brushed gold and silver cardstock for the tools and they look so cool - just the slightest bit of shimmer to them.

Next up is a card for two challenges.  I took the colours from The Challenge and paired them with Fanciful Feathers for WPlus9's Throwback Thursday Challenge.  I remember when this stamp set came out - I saw those feathers all over the place and I HAD to have them.  I couldn't tell you the last time I inked them up though.  I need to take part in this kind of challenge more often!

My card this week feels very Melissa-esque to me.  Our intrepid leader often creates the most fabulous one layer & one ink colour cards and she came to mind immediately when I put this little number together.  This has got to be the quickest card I've ever made.  I dithered about adding gems or embossing to it but in the end I decided that I liked it completely raw.

A Little Bit Naughty...

Good morning!  Today I'm sharing a card for the For The Men challenge at Naughty or Nice.  This card was inspired by a t-shirt my brother had.  The best part about the shirt was that mom didn't get it at all.  She even commented on the "lovely scene" depicted on it! When we finally stopped laughing and explained it to her she just rolled her eyes and sighed, "I should have known it was something like that."  So glad my mom is so easy going!

I broke out another of my new PTI dies for this week's card and used the inlaid die technique.  I needed some help with colours so I turned to the ColourQ challenge for some inspiration.  It's a great masculine palette and now that I'm looking at it I'm thinking I should have used "Father's Day" instead of "birthday" for the sentiment.  Guess I'll have to make a few more...

I'm so glad I bought this Craft's Meow stamp set during their closing sale.  It's funny because I remember this set when it was first released and it just didn't grab me so I skipped on past it.  So glad I changed my mind!  I used it for this CASology card and now it's back again!  They're great stamps for CAS cards and they immediately came to mind when I saw this snowman without an outline.  Now it's your turn for a CAS CASE!  Be sure and visit the Design Team for they fabulous takes on the sketch and then play along!

Chair-ished Friendship

Happy Friday!  I'm not celebrating quite yet as I have a long day ahead of me at work.  However, the adorable Miss Kenzie will be there so at least there will be puppy snuggles to help pass the time!  In the meantime here's a card for the Tuesday Trigger challenge at the Moxie Fab World and also for Unity's Friends With Flair hop.  I was inspired by the blue chair in the picture and also by the grid heart.  I decided to go a bit more masculine for my card as I needed one for a male friend. The chair is from Unity's December 2011 KOM and I used A Bit of Burlap on the frame to tie in the grid pattern.  I played around a lot with how to apply the sentiment but in the end a simple strip of card stock underlining it seemed to fit just right.

You Rev Me Up!

 As usual I'm being a total Last Minute Lucy and scooting in with hours to spare for the Moxie Fab challenges.  I'm actually entering this card in two Moxie Fab World challenges - the Make A Card With A Window challenge and the Make Your Own Background Paper challenge.  

I started off by using the colours from the Play Date Cafe.  I thought they were kind of masculine and the sentiment was inspired by the Zoom Goes My Heart stamp set from The Craft's Meow (designed by the fabulous Karen Baker) which is on my (very long) wish list.  The sentiment (which I created with Lawn Fawn's Claire's ABCs) led me to these cute little Amy Tangerine car and heart stamps.  I chose the Papertrey Ink Fillable Frames die for the window because it made me think of an exhaust cloud which I'm sure you'd have with all these cars around!!  The picture below shows the window a little better.  As usual now that I've finally made one window card they don't seem so scary anymore!  Perhaps I'll try a few more...

Sparks Hello

Happy Saturday! It's been a gorgeous day here - sunny but cool and dry. Atticus has really enjoyed it as we took him for a swim, played ball and went for a walk. Now he's totally crashed out on his bed paddling his paws and dreaming doggie dreams - probably about those chickens he didn't manage to catch on his walk!  LOL! 

Anyway, on to my card which is for the Paper Smooches Picture Perfect challenge and also for the Anything Goes challenge at Simon Says Stamp.  I was inspired by the colors, the colour block bedding, the white bird on the wooden dresser and the studs on the headboard.  It turned out as quite a masculine card and I like the graphicness of it.  

Now I'm off to hit the shower.  Tomorrow is Luis' birthday and also my mom's birthday so we're going to dinner tonight with some family.  Next Sunday is my brother's birthday and my goddaughter's Christening and at the end of the month is my dear friend Louise's birthday.  A very busy month!

Celebrate With Hexagons

I am loving grey these days so when I saw that the current Just Us Girls challenge was a colour combo including grey I let out a "Whoop whoop!"  :)  The colours felt quite masculine to me so I went for a graphic, guy birthday card. I love this super cheeky sentiment stamp from Unity's February Kit of the Month.  I paired it with the car images from the same set and a background stamp from Skipping Stones Design's Grunge collection.  I used the colours from Just Add Ink and the sketch from the new Retro Sketches challenge.  I am also going to add this to the Cure for the Winter Blues challenge over at the Moxie Fab World.  Can't go wrong with a little giggle for curing the blues huh?  :)

Birthday Birdies

I had a few hours to get crafty yesterday while Luis was building a little shelf for our cookbooks. This is one of the cards that I made and I played along with two challenges for it.  I used the colours from the Play Date Cafe and the sketch from Skipping Stones Design.  It's the first time any of these stamps have been inked up and I also used some patterned paper (from Basic Grey's Nook & Pantry collection) so I'm continuing to forge ahead with using up my stash!


We actually managed to get some odds and ends accomplished this weekend which I feel pretty good about.  We measured out several outdoor areas that need tiling and chose the tile.  We also took some artwork to get framed.  I had bought it in Mexico on our honeymoon last February with the intention of making my own frame for it.  Fast forward to now and it was still sitting on top of our bookshelf unframed so I broke down and took it to the framers.  It would probably be cheaper to do ourselves but if we haven't done it in all this time I don't foresee it happening any time soon and I'd rather get it up on the wall where it can be enjoyed.  I wish I was more of a do-it-yourselfer but alas, I am not.

One of the girl's at work wanted a card for her friend's 40th birthday - although he apparently only ever turns 33.  ;)  So I pulled out a Stampin' Up image, Lawn Fawn alphabets stamps and some felt letters I've had kicking around for a while and came up with this.  As it's for a guy I'm going to enter it over at Young Crafters Unite's challenge to create a masculine card.


I spent today puppy sitting Franklin, my friend's new chocolate lab.  He is the cutest, chubbiest little guy and also the sleepiest puppy I've ever met!  He'll scamper around for about 45 minutes and then pass out for the next 2 hours!  He'll even pass out mid-play like in the bottom picture - asleep with his toy still in his mouth!
