Circle Twofer

Last time I tried to play along with Darnell's Twofer challenge I missed the deadline so this time I'm determined to get in there before it's too late!
WPlus9's Doodle Buds set has a few different flower shapes in it including this fun circle.  On my first card I used it as it was intended as a flower.  I thought, however, that it would also make a fun balloon so I created some bright and happy birthday balloons for the second card.  I used some baker's twine for the string and added a fun, curly happy birthday sentiment.

Wavy Thank You

This week The Paper Players are looking for CAS Thank You cards.  In my continuing effort to use patterned paper I pulled out a couple of dies to create this card.  I have an awful lot of 12x12 papers.  They tend to have larger designs which don't always lend themselves to the size of cards but dies like these waves from MFT allow you to cut the papers down to size and still preserve some of the design.

Supplies Used:
Cardstock:  (White) Papertrey Ink, (Daffodil Delight) Stampin' Up
Patterned Paper:  (Indian Summer 12x12) Basic Grey
Dies:  (Ride the Waves) My Favourite Things, (Thank You) Simon Says Stamp
Markers:  (Y38, E31, E37, C7) Copic
Other:  (Nuvo Ebony Black Crystal Drops) Tonic, (Glossy Accents) Ranger

Congrats Tags

I haven't played along with Shopping Out Stash in forever but their current challenge is UFOs - UnFinished Objects.  There is a perpetual pile of odds and ends on my desk so this forced me to dig in and try and make use of some of it.  This shiny, stacked congrats diecut has been sitting there for awhile along with an open package of tags from Fancy Pants.  I thought the colorful tags would make a fun background for the sentiment.  Further digging led me to this twine bow and with the addition of some foam tape and black stripes I had a card in no time!

Supplies Used:
Cardstock:  (Smokey Slate, Basic Black) Stampin' Up
Die:  (Congrats) Honey Bee Stamps

Party Penguin

It's super humid and gross here today so I've given up on the craft room as it's too hot in there.  Before I bailed out I did get this card made for the My Favorite Things sketch challenge and the Simon Says Wednesday Summer Fun challenge.  I thought the penguin with his ice cream bar and flowered swim trunks looked ready for a summer party.  I paper pieced everything with old vintage My Mind's Eye papers and popped him up on some foam tape for dimension.

Supplies Used:
Cardstock:  (White) Papertrey Ink, (Basic Black) Stampin' Up
Patterned Paper:  (The Sweetest Thing Tangerine 6x6) My Mind's Eye
Stamps:  (Penguin & sentiment from Penguins in Paradise, Hat & balloons from Happy Hippos) My Favourite Things

Rockin' Guitar

I've got a card today for 3 challenges - CAS Colours & Sketches, Freshly Made Sketches and Darnell's NBUS challenge.  This is the first time I've used this Taylored Expressions guitar image and I just realised I've put it together backwards.  *sigh*  It really has been one of those days.

Framed Flower

Today's card is for the Colour Throwdown and Just Us Girls (Frame It) challenges.  Since I already had the Pinkfresh Floral Squares on my desk from my last card I decided to use a different one here.  This time I paper pieced the die cut with coloured card stock and backed it with a solid colour.  I originally reached for a white card base but I'm trying to push myself to put more of a dent in my coloured cardstock so I went for the blue instead.

Supplies Used:
Cardstock:  (White) Papertrey Ink, (Lucky Limeade, Baja Breeze, Midnight Muse, Rich Razzleberry) Stampin' Up
Stamps:  (Sentiment from Labeled Love) Mama Elephant

Yellow Floral Square

Hi there!
I've got a card today for the Freshly Made Sketches and Inkspirational challenges.  I thought immediately of the Pinkfresh Floral Squares when I saw the sketch and the bright yellow of the photo inspiration sent me straight to this Authentique paper which really allows the flower to pop.  I layered the die a few times for some depth and added a simple little sentiment from Simon Says Stamp.

Supplies Used:
Cardstock:  (White) Papertrey Ink, (Basic Grey, Basic Black) Stampin' Up
Patterned Paper:  (Essentials 6x6) Authentique

CASology #370

Welcome to Week 370 of CASology!  Take a look at the cue word for this week:

Today's cue word gave me the nudge to finally pull out this SugarPea Designs stamp and die set and put it to use.  This is probably the fastest a card has come together for me in ages which seems fitting for a super CAS guy card.  The Dad and mustache were die cut multiple times and stacked for some dimension.  I added the argyle stripe at the bottom because an odd number of lines feels more balanced I wanted red at the top and bottom of the stack.

Looking forward to seeing what direction the cue word takes you.  Check out the gorgeousness from the rest of the design team then play along!

***We're switching to a monthly challenge schedule for the summer so you have 4 weeks to play along!***
Link your creations to the CASology blog by Monday, 6 July (CDT).

Colour Throwdown Guest Designer

I'm excited to be guest designing at The Colour Throwdown this week!  They have a bright and cheery colour combo for us to play with and I took my inspiration directly from the  photo.  How yummy and refreshing do those popsicles look?  My little popsicles are from a fun Reverse Confetti set and remind me of popsicle day at school.  In the summer term Friday was popsicle day and at lunch time you could buy one for 50 cents.  It never failed to entertain us watching each other's tongues turn red and orange and purple and someone always ended up with popsicle drips down the front of their uniform.  (Usually me if you ask my mum!)

Supplies Used:
Cardstock:  (White) Papertrey Ink, (Real Red, Pumpkin Pie, Gumball Green, Crumb Cake) Stampin' Up
Stamps:  (All from Hey, Sugar) Reverse Confetti

Chevron Flower Birthday

I'm playing along with the Tic Tac Toe challenge at the Paper Players.  I made this using the top row (flowers, girly, birthday) but it also works for the diagonal (flowers, die cut, embossing).  I used Jennifer McGuire's ink smooshing/faux watercolor technique on a Craft's Meow flower and leaves.  I really love this look especially with the Oxide inks - such rich colour!  I added some MFT chevrons in the background for a bit of drama and a Winnie & Walter sentiment to finish it off.

Supplies Used:
Cardstock:  (White) Papertrey Ink, (Basic Grey) Stampin' Up, (Watercolour) Ranger
Stamps:  (Flower & leaves from Happiness Is...) The Craft's Meow, (Sentiment from Sentimental: Birthday) Winnie & Walter

Happy Bird-Day!

Today's card is for the Seize the Birthday Totally Tropical challenge.  I used to love visiting the flamingos at the zoo when I was a kid and remember the big excitement on the island when one escaped.  It was spotted in several areas around the island (including at the airport) before it eventually settled in the Spittal Pond nature reserve.  Smart bird.  Anyway they definitely conjure up tropical vibes for me and so I though this Reverse Confetti flamingo would make for a fun birthday card.  I wanted a green background for him and was excited to find this Basic Grey paper that had a smattering of pink in the green.  This is why we hoard the patterned paper...
