CASology #387

Welcome to Week 387 of CASology!  Take a look at the cue word for this week:

So many ideas came to mind when I saw this week's cue word - the animals I've had in my life (who are always a source of comfort), cozy pajamas, a comfy sofa - but in the end I went for the card I needed in the moment which was, unfortunately, a sympathy card.  I like this sentiment as an alternative to "With sympathy" as it feels a little less formal (although now that I look at it I ended up dressing it with a rather formal frame).

Looking forward to seeing what direction the cue word takes you.  Check out the gorgeousness from the rest of the design team then play along!

Birthday Rainbow

Another card from yesterday's crafty session.  This one is for The Colour Throwdown challenge. This colour combo is definitely not one I'd ever choose for myself but I decided to be brave and go for it.  And you know what?  I'm pretty happy with the end product!  This is also the first time I've used that Essentials by Ellen rainbow die so I'm going to play along with Darnell's NBUS challenge too.  :)

Alcohol Ink Butterfly

I finally managed to get some crafty time today and this is the first card I made.  I took inspiration  from the photo at The Card Concept to make this CAS card.  Ages ago I was playing round with alcohol inks and I've had a few cardstock panels of it sitting on my desk ever since.  One of them had the perfect colours for this butterfly.  It's an oldie but goodie PTI butterfly die.  I cut it twice from black cardstock to layer up the "frame" of it and then filled it in with a cut from the alcohol ink panel.  The sentiment is from Avery Elle and I placed a few gold Nuvo Crystal Drops around it to make it pop.

Supplies Used:
Cardstock:  (White) Papertrey Ink, ( Basic Black) Stampin' Up
Stamps:  (Sentiment from Cake and Candles) Avery Elle
Inks:  (VersaFine Onyx Black) Tsukineko, (Raspberry, Sailboat Blue, Purple Twilight, Gold) Ranger Alcohol Inks
Dies:  (Butterfly) Papertrey Ink

CASology #386

Welcome to Week 386 of CASology!  Take a look at the cue word for this week:

I had a few different ideas for the cue word but in the end I went for a creature that lived a loooooooong time ago!  These Heffy Doodle dinos are super cute and have the best punny sentiments.  I mean Juras-sick?  Seriously?  I love it!

Looking forward to seeing what direction the cue word takes you.  Check out the gorgeousness from the rest of the design team then play along!

Ribbon Rainbow

As I mentioned in Thursday's post (and showed in my craft room tour) I have a ton of ribbon that I never use.  So I decided to continue to challenge myself to do something with it.  This works well with Time Out's challenge to do something different and I'm also going to play along at Seize the Birthday (no topping) since I ended up with a bright and cheery birthday card.  I used my ribbon to make a bright rainbow background and topped it with a Simon Says Stamp birthday die.  I'm loving the vibrant colours and the fun textures from the different ribbons.  Now to see how much more of the stuff I can use going forward...

Flower and Ribbon

I took inspiration from the hot pink flower in the Paper Players photo and thought it would work nicely with the Freshly Made sketch.  Instead of adding leaves to the flowers I used green ribbon behind it.  The flower is an old one from Hero Arts that I coloured with Copics.  The ribbon is also Hero Arts.   A friend was looking at photos of my craft room recently and asked how I use ribbon on my cards.  I said, "I don't!" which got me thinking that I really should try to use some or pass it on to someone who will.  I made two cards using ribbon today and I'm pretty darn pleased with this first one!  (I'll share the other one tomorrow).

Supplies Used:
Cardstock:  (White) Papertrey Ink
Stamps:  (Flower) Hero Arts, (Sentiment from Bigger Blooms) Papertrey Ink

Birthday Balloon Kitty

I've got a card today for the Just Us Girls Animals challenge.  When I'm having a slow mojo day I find myself stamping images so that they're ready to colour and die cut when inspiration strikes.  This Newton's Nook kitty was sitting in the pile of stamped images on my desk and seemed like he was all ready to take on this challenge!  I cut a scalloped panel for the sky and stamped some Papertrey Ink clouds on it. I also die cut a matching cloud so I could pop one up on foam tape along with the kitty and the sentiment to create more of a visual triangle.

Supplies Used:
Cardstock:  (White) Papertrey Ink, (Bashful Blue, Basic Black) Stampin' Up
Stamps:  (Cat rom Newton's Birthday Bash) Newton's Nook, (Cloud from Up Up and Away) Papertrey Ink, (Sentiment from Smitten Kitten) My Favourite Things
Inks:  (VersaMark, Memento Tuxedo Black) Tsukineko
Embossing Powder:  (Opaque Bright White Super Fine) Wow
Dies:  (Scalloped rectangle) Winnie & Walter, (Cloud) Papertrey Ink
Markers:  (R11, R22, R32, C1, C3, C5) Copic

Doggone Good Birthday

Today's card is for the Addicted To CAS challenge (Animal).  My goal for myself today was to use some coloured card bases.  I almost always reach for white card bases so once in a while I try to force myself not to.  Birthday cards are good for this since they're generally cheery and celebratory anyway which works well with bright colours.  These Your Next Stamps pooches were in my pile of pre-stamped images so I coloured them with Copics, die cut them and popped them up on foam tape.  I almost went for my usual white embossed sentiment on black cardstock but decided to keep going with the colours instead and I really like how these turned out!

Supplies Used:
Cardstock:  (White) Papertrey Ink, (Rose Red, Granny Apple Green, Wisteria Wonder, Elegant Eggplant) Stampin' Up
Stamps:  (All from Party Pets) Your Next Stamp
Inks:  (VersaFine Onyx Black, Memento Tuxedo Black) Tsukineko
Markers:  (YG03, B29, BV23, C1, W1, W3, W5, 100) Copic
Other:  (Nuvo White Crystal Drops) Tonic

CASology #385

Welcome to Week 385 of CASology!  Take a look at the cue word for this week:

The simple stripes dies I got from Mama Elephant are my new favourite things.  Do you know how much cardstock and how many swear words I've wasted in the past trying to cut them with my paper cutter?  Now it just takes a few passes through my Cuttlebug and all is right with my stripes!

Looking forward to seeing what direction the cue word takes you.  Check out the gorgeousness from the rest of the design team then play along!
