Little Birthday Flower

Today's card is for the Freshly Made Sketches and Simon Says Wednesday (Anything Goes) challenges.  I used some oldie but goodie flower and vase dies from Paper Smooches and mounted them on foam tape on a Spellbinders Hemstitch Square.  The sentiment is from Tiny Words by Simon Says Stamp.  I wasn't sure how much use I'd get out of them given how small they are but they have come in handy far more than I expected!

Supplies Used:
Cardstock:  (White) Papertrey Ink, (Real Red, Daffodil Delight, Old Olive) Stampin' Up
Patterned Paper: (Black & White Basics 6x6) My Favourite Things
Stamps:  (Sentiment from Tiny Words) Simon Says Stamp
Inks:  (ersaFine Onyx Black) Tsukineko
Dies:  (Flower & vase) Paper Smooches, (Hemstitch Square) Spellbinders

Rainbow Ridin' By

Today's card is for the Just Us Girls Rainbow Colors challenge.  These fun wavy dies screamed out at me to make a funky rainbow so I obliged.  I white embossed the Reverse Confetti bike and speech bubble on black cardstock so they wouldn't get lost against the rainbow colours.  They're popped up on foam tape and I managed to use a few large gems that have been haunting my craft space for years.  In fact I was so proud of using those embellishments that I made 3 cards just to use up different coloured gems!

Supplies Used:
Cardstock:  (White) Papertrey Ink, (Real Red, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Old Olive, Pacific Point, Basic Black) Stampin' Up
Stamps:  Reverse Confetti
Inks:  (VersaMark, VersaFine Onyx Black) Tsukineko
Embossing Powder:  (Opaque Bright White Super Fine) Wow
Dies:  (Wavy lines) Papertrey Ink
Gems:  Doodlebug

CASology Simple Studios Blog Hop

We're inviting you to hop around, check out our craft rooms and and maybe pick up some ideas for storage and organization solutions.

The hop will run through Thursday, February 25th.  For those who comment on all the blogs along the hop you'll be entered to win a $20 gift voucher to Simon Says Stamp.  The winner will be announced Friday, February 26th, on the CASology blog.

Let's get started!

My craft room really hasn't changed much since my last two studio tours (here in 2015 and here in 2011) with the exception of cramming more and more stuff into it so I certainly wouldn't call it a Simple Studio. Over the years I've collected a lot of products because I saw them in magazines or saw someone I admired using them and then it turned out that they really weren't my thing or didn't work with my style.  I struggle with getting rid of these things though because maybe one day I'll find a use for them or they'll become my style.  Anyone else do this?  Well, it's time for that to change because hopefully this time next year I'll have a brand new dedicated craft space and while it'll be all mine it will also be smaller so I'll have to do some serious and thoughtful culling to make the space less overwhelming and more user friendly.

Below is my desk which has the majority of my stamps stored on and under it.  The shelves above have my Nuvo drops as well as some fun odds and ends and some of the cards I've received over the years from the wonderful people I've met through this hobby.

To the left of my desk is a little cart with my guillotine on the top, cardstock scraps in the binders and Christmas stamps in the bins.  My old Papertrey Ink stamps are in the CD rack.  The bookshelf holds patterned papers, non-Stampin' Up cardstock and craft magazines.  The grey drawer set on the top hold brads and eyelets and I cannot remember the last time I used either of those things...
My favourite thing in this photo is the YAAAASS above the window.  My brother gave me the letters for Christmas a couple of years ago and they always make me smile.

Moving left again we have lots of Stampin' Up cardstock, more patterned paper, glitter, sequins, embossing powder and miscellaneous embellishments.  The binders on the bottom of the bookshelf are full of Unity stamps.

It's interesting how my storage needs have changed over the years.  I was so excited when I first got the white shelf and drawer units but I have to say that now they basically just hold up the cardstock on top of them.  My woodblock stamps are stored in the drawers along with different papers (mulberry, origami, textured), old ink pads and bits of ephemera.  The only things I use from the drawers are vellum and clear sheets.  The shelves hold 12x12 Bazzill cardstock and miscellaneous 12x12 patterned papers.  Unfortunately being open as they are means the papers are prone to collecting dust and fading.  I suspect these units will not follow me to the new craft room.

Another storage solution that I was so proud to get was this ribbon rack.  It holds all the ribbon and looks pretty when you put them in rainbow order but it has also become a bit of a dust collector.  Now it's another thing that will probably get culled.  Below it are ink blending tools and in the boxes below are more ribbons and twine as well as extra adhesives.

Back around to the right of my desk we have the storage units that I'll definitely be keeping.  I love the wooden ink holders (and clearly need a few more).  These are great to stack on a shelf or hang on the wall and fit lots of different inks.  The drawers below them hold punches, felt and other fabrics, gems, Stickles and mists, scissors and adhesives.  There are also more Papertrey Ink stamps on the bottom shelf.

Luis made this washi tape shelf for me and I love it!  The shelves are slightly tilted back so the washi doesn't roll off them and it allows me to make a pretty rainbow with the tape.  Sadly I've learned that you've got to use washi tape pretty quickly when living in a humid climate like this or they get gummed up and become unusable.  So I figure if they're not going to get used at least I can display them and enjoy looking at them!

And that's it!  Hopefully you've arrived here from Deepti's blog and you'll be heading over to Nancy's next.  If not click on the links below to catch up on any blogs that you've missed so you can comment and be in the running for the $20 Simon Says Stamp gift certificate!

Monstera Birthday

Today's card is for the Just Add Ink photo inspiration challenge and for Darnell's NBUS challenge (since it's the first time I've inked up this Altenew potted plant).  I love the inspiration photo as it could have been taken here where all our houses are built of stone and painted bright and cheerful colours with white roofs.  Over the years our house has gone through a number of colour changes.  Here's a photo of the transition from turquoise to dark blue.  Today the house is sage green.

Floral Birthday

Lately it seems that Saturdays are my only days to craft so I'm trying to make the most of them.  I managed to get 10 cards made which is pretty good considering I took a break in the middle to go for a walk with a friend.  We were trying to out walk the rain and almost made it but got caught out 5 minutes from our cars.  Doh!  Here's the sky about a minute before we got hit with the rain...

Anyway today's card is for CAS Colours & Sketches.  I love these simple flowers from Altenew.  I stamped them on coloured card stock and this time remembered that I had the matching dies to use so saved some time on fussy cutting.  I scored some lines along the bottom for a little something extra without letting it get too fussy.

(Couldn't resist making a second card and adding some yellow Nuvo drops to it)

Supplies Used:
Cardstock:  (White) Papertrey Ink, (Flirty Flamingo, Smoky Slate) Stampin' Up, (Blue) Bazzill
Stamps:  (Flowers from Stunning Cosmos) Altenew, (Sentiment from Sentimental: Birthday) Winnie & Walter

CASology #384

Welcome to Week 384 of CASology!  Take a look at the cue word for this week:

This is one of my favourite phrases.  Not sure what that says about me but it is what it is.  I have a mug with this on it and I've made a card with the sentiment before.  Apparently I can't have too many of them!  Ha ha!

Looking forward to seeing what direction the cue word takes you.  Check out the gorgeousness from the rest of the design team then play along!

Birthday Hearts

I don't usually enter a bunch of challenges all with one card but it's that heart time of year and I'm already done with making Valentine's cards.  Both the birthday sentiment and the scalloped frame were on my desk so all I had to do was die cut some hearts from some patterned paper, layer everything up and I was done!

Cardstock:  (White) Papertrey Ink, (Basic Black) Stampin' Up, (Vellum)
Patterned Papers:  (Love Story 6x6) Echo Park

Washi Birthday

I've got a super quick CAS card for the Freshly Made Sketches and AAA Birthday challenges.  I broke open some fun and celebratory washi tape and paired them with this Paper Smooches sentiment that was already cut.  I covered the sentiment with Aqua Shimmer Glitter Gloss for some extra pizzazz and added a few gems.  I always love it when I finally make use of some of the odds and ends on my desk!

Butterfly Birthday

I carried on from yesterday with some paper piecing using my old Basic Grey papers.  This time it's for the CAS Colours & Sketches challenge where I turned the sketch 90 degrees to the right (or left).  This was a quick and easy make.  Fussy cutting the butterfly took the longest... and then I realised I had the matching die.  Doh!

Cardstock:  (White) Papertrey Ink
Patterned Papers:  (Ambrosia 12x12) Basic Grey

Cupcake Birthday

I've got a quick card today for the Card Concept challenge.  I was inspired by those yummy looking cupcakes with that perfectly swirled icing.  They made me think of this Neat & Tangled set which I thought would be fun to paper piece.  I pulled out some ancient Basic Grey patterned paper and put together this CAS (or maybe slightly Clean and Layered) design.  The cupcake and speech bubble are popped up on foam tape for a bit of dimension.  And now I think I might go and do a little baking...

My Butter Half

I've got a card today for the Simon Says Wednesday challenge (Love is in the air) and the Just Us Girls challenge (Valentine).  These punny food stamps from Avery Elle are totally right up my street!  I made a few CAS ones with just the heart and image on white cardstock but then thought I'd jazz this one up with some patterned paper and I love how it came out!

CASology #383

Welcome to Week 383 of CASology!  Take a look at the cue word for this week:

I spent ages looking for an envelope die which I'm sure I had at some point but I couldn't find it anywhere so I turned to this adorable Heffy Doodle set and broke it open for the first time.  I would love to have my mail delivered by this joyful little pup bounding up my driveway.  It might even make bills and junk mail more tolerable to receive!

Looking forward to seeing what direction the cue word takes you.  Check out the gorgeousness from the rest of the design team then play along!
