Birthday Leaves

I've got a card for 3 challenges today.  I used the sketch from CAS Colours & Sketches, the theme from Just Us Girls (Leaves) and the third column (Die cut, Leaves, Embellishments) from the Tic Tac Toe challenge at The Paper Players.  I had forgotten even ordering these leaf dies from MFT (and I confess that happens way more than it should!) so was thrilled to find them in my stash and put them to use.  I cut the leaves from some Basic Grey paper and layered them three times for dimension.  I embossed the Simon Says sentiment on an MFT stitched arch and added twine and Crystal Drops for a bit of embellishment.  I was feeling very rusty today so it took far longer than it should have to come up with this but I'm happy with how it ended up.

You're How Old?

The current Inspired By photo reminded me of this card that I made a few weeks ago so I thought I'd CASE myself and make a similar one for this challenge.  These Stampers Anonymous/Tim Holtz Crazy Dogs are are so cute and they have the best expressions on their faces.  The shocked look on this guy's face seemed a perfect match for this rather cheeky sentiment.  :)

Monstera Birthday

Today's card is for the Just Add Ink photo inspiration challenge and for Darnell's NBUS challenge (since it's the first time I've inked up this Altenew potted plant).  I love the inspiration photo as it could have been taken here where all our houses are built of stone and painted bright and cheerful colours with white roofs.  Over the years our house has gone through a number of colour changes.  Here's a photo of the transition from turquoise to dark blue.  Today the house is sage green.

Butterfly Birthday

I carried on from yesterday with some paper piecing using my old Basic Grey papers.  This time it's for the CAS Colours & Sketches challenge where I turned the sketch 90 degrees to the right (or left).  This was a quick and easy make.  Fussy cutting the butterfly took the longest... and then I realised I had the matching die.  Doh!

Cupcake Birthday

I've got a quick card today for the Card Concept challenge.  I was inspired by those yummy looking cupcakes with that perfectly swirled icing.  They made me think of this Neat & Tangled set which I thought would be fun to paper piece.  I pulled out some ancient Basic Grey patterned paper and put together this CAS (or maybe slightly Clean and Layered) design.  The cupcake and speech bubble are popped up on foam tape for a bit of dimension.  And now I think I might go and do a little baking...

Wavy Thank You

This week The Paper Players are looking for CAS Thank You cards.  In my continuing effort to use patterned paper I pulled out a couple of dies to create this card.  I have an awful lot of 12x12 papers.  They tend to have larger designs which don't always lend themselves to the size of cards but dies like these waves from MFT allow you to cut the papers down to size and still preserve some of the design.

Supplies Used:
Cardstock:  (White) Papertrey Ink, (Daffodil Delight) Stampin' Up
Patterned Paper:  (Indian Summer 12x12) Basic Grey
Dies:  (Ride the Waves) My Favourite Things, (Thank You) Simon Says Stamp
Markers:  (Y38, E31, E37, C7) Copic

Happy Bird-Day!

Today's card is for the Seize the Birthday Totally Tropical challenge.  I used to love visiting the flamingos at the zoo when I was a kid and remember the big excitement on the island when one escaped.  It was spotted in several areas around the island (including at the airport) before it eventually settled in the Spittal Pond nature reserve.  Smart bird.  Anyway they definitely conjure up tropical vibes for me and so I though this Reverse Confetti flamingo would make for a fun birthday card.  I wanted a green background for him and was excited to find this Basic Grey paper that had a smattering of pink in the green.  This is why we hoard the patterned paper...

Supplies Used:
Cardstock:  (White) Papertrey Ink, (Flirty Flamingo, Strawberry Slush, Basic Black) Stampin' Up

Here For You Butterflies

I've got a card today for the new Colour Throwdown challenge where the colors are black, white and turquoise.  I was digging through some old stash and came across a set of die cut butterflies from Making Memories and decided they needed to be put to use.  I paired them up with some patterned paper from Basic Grey, a sentiment from Altenew and some black Nuvo dots.  I figured while I had them out I'd make a second card but with a yellow background this time using My Mind's Eye papers.

Silhouette Sympathy

Today I'm playing along with the Silhouette challenge at Addicted to CAS and the Anything Goes challenge at Paper Smooches.  I have quite a few lovely flower dies from PS that make wonderful silhouettes.  I paired this one with a vase from another set and used a bit of Basic Grey paper behind them.  The sentiment is from Altenew and I used some Nuvo dots around the sentiment and also to create the flower center.

Polaroid Flower

I'm continuing to have fun with the old chipboard pieces I dug up recently. Take Flight

When I was digging around through my old 12x12 patterned paper collections I found a whole pile of chipboard shapes and letters and thought it would be fun to make some quick cards with them.  This one if for the AAA Cards Sketch challenge which had the optional twist of "It flies".  This dragonfly paired nicely with this old Papertrey Ink sentiment and I used a coloured card base to give it a little extra oomph without being too busy.

After my recent mojo struggles I had a pretty good card making day today.  I pulled out some ancient Basic Grey 12x12 papers for this card for CAS(E) This Sketch and the AAA Birthday challenge (Dots &/or Stripes).  The birthday sentiment cake is from a super cute Lil Inker Designs set that has a few cakes of different sizes.  I used Nuvo Crystal drops for the candle flame and to sprinkle a few little dots around.

CASology #364

Welcome to Week 364 of CASology!  Take a look at the cue word for this week:

I am excited to be getting back to card making after my surgery.  It was so frustrating to have down time but not be able to craft.  Grrrr...  I did lots of reading though and even watched a few movies I've been meaning to watch for ages.  It was good downtime and Chica was more than happy to help keep me planted on the sofa!

I kept thing very simple for my first card back - one image with basic paper piecing and a sentiment.  The mug is Paper Smooches and the sentiment is from Lil' Inker Designs.  I was heartbroken to hear they recently closed up shop!   I remember when they opened.  I have so many of their products and Laura always provided exceptional customer service.  I'll really miss them.

Looking forward to seeing what direction the cue word takes you.  Check out the gorgeousness from the rest of the design team then play along!

Link your creations to the CASology blog by Monday, 30 March (CDT).

Bold Patterned Birthday

Hello there!

I'm popping in today with a card for the Seize the Birthday Layer It challenge.  I took inspiration from this gorgeous card made by Gayatri.  I changed it up a bit by keeping the die cuts right next to each other and using patterned paper instead of inked card.  It's a great way to make use of patterned paper especially the old 12x12 sheets that I have.  I added the Simon Says birthday die over the top which is a two layer die so counting the card base I have 4 layers.  I liked the design so much I ended up making three cards with different papers and I imagine there will be more in the future.

Supplies Used:
Cardstock:  (White) Papertrey Ink, (Rich Razzleberry, Crisp Cantaloupe, Lemon Lime Twist) Stampin' Up
Patterned Paper: Basic Grey, K&Co

Yellow Butterfly

Hi there!

I've got a card today for three challenges - CAS Colours and Sketches, Freshly Made Sketches and Seize the Birthday (Toppings - Butterflies).

I used a few scraps of old patterned paper here (which always makes me happy) and a pretty butterfly from My Favourite Things.  I love that the body of the butterfly comes as a separate die so you can layer it on the wings for more dimension.

Supplies Used:
Cardstock:  (Textured White) Bazzill, (Elegant Eggplant, Basic Black) Stampin' Up
Patterned Paper:  (Yellow from Capture 6x6) Basic Grey, (Purple from Everyday Collection 6x6) Avery Elle
Stamps:  (Sentiment from More Essential Sentiments) My Favourite Things
Inks:  (VersaMark) Tsukineko
Embossing Powder:  (Opaque Bright White Super Fine) Wow
Dies:  (Butterfly) My Favourite Things, (Stitched rectangle) Lil' Inker Designs
